Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of heroes who will separate from the main group to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his own means, invading the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The antagonist then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the party enter locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and Wicander defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The target is wanted dead by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Questers and Strategists groups.
Audiences can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
