19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev won his first title for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden title following the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt from March of 2023.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one various competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused observers to question if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and play assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.

The champion came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet rescued four early chances in a close final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, he clinched victory with a point at the net, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
