2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Lead to Boost Struggling Action Game Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.

Management Change Follows Mixed Response

The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last autumn.

Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated staff about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a clearer game identity.

The president expressed that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised focus, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

A Pattern of Key Recruitment

The news mirrors a comparable step taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock development group.

Below is the entire text from Ismailer's communication:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just wrapped up your gathering - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative creators we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to persist.”

Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game demo was enlightening. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but made clear we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the need for a clearer identity.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the input to heart and reimagined the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s ready to achieve its promise to our fans.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the outstanding development you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the latest Director of 31st Union. After some time of discussions, Ben officially joins us on next week.

His guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having dedicated the last 15 years producing and leading some of the most popular franchises in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in greeting Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to continue observing the development of the game in the months to follow.
